AF International, part of the H K Wentworth Group, has continued its’ partnership with leading green initiative, the National Forest, for the sixth year.
As a key sponsor, AF International’s support has assisted the National Forest with its aim to create greener urban spaces in the Forest. Over the course of the partnership, around 7000 trees (enough to cover roughly 3.8 hectares) have been planted ingardens and green spaces across North West Leicestershire.
With their Head Office based in the National Forest near Ashby de la Zouch, AF International felt that the partnership was a natural fit and a great way to reflect their commitment to environmental responsibility.
“As a chemicals company, there’s probably a perception that we’re not that green. To the contrary, we’re working harder annually to improve our carbon footprint. We’re actually a Zero Waste to Landfill-certified business, thanks to the green culture we promote both internally through culture and externally through policy.
Many of our products either come in recyclable packing or are recyclable themselves. Others, including our Smart Wipes, can even be washed and re-used again. We’re exploring more opportunities to demonstrate our commitment to green ecology.
I’m really glad we’re extending our partnership with the National Forest – they’re doing some fantastic work locally, demonstrating how space can be made for trees close to where people live and work and it is great to see how this is now being replicated in other areas of the country. .”
Paul Hardy, AF International, European Brand Director
In the past year alone, AF has cut its plastic usage by 640kg. To put this into context, it’s almost the full weight of a F1 car. And by using less packaging – especially plastic – AF is alleviating the environmental burden for their customers.
Commenting on the partnership, David Bourque, Director of Development at the National Forest commented :
“It is great to have the support of companies like AF International who are based here in the Forest. The National Forest is a nationally inspiring place working on sustainability, in partnership with business, delivering positive change. By working with business partners who adopt sustainable solutions we can achieve a positive future together.”
And whilst the business incorporates even more products into their eco range, AF is also due to publish some interesting information in Q1 2021 outlining their ‘Eco Story’.

About the National Forest
- The National Forest area covers 200 square miles of the counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Its objective is to increase woodland cover within its boundaries from an initial six per cent to about a third. No multi-purpose forest on this scale has been created in the UK for one thousand years. More than 8.9 million trees have been planted so far, trebling the proportion of woodland cover in the Forest to over 21 per cent.
- Year by year, the National Forest has been steadily turning what was once one of the least wooded areas of England into a multi-purpose, sustainable forest. The National Forest provides environmental, social and economic benefits, including landscape enhancement, creation of new wildlife habitats and major new access and leisure opportunities. It is an excellent example of sustainable development – with environmental improvement providing a stimulus both to economic regeneration and to community pride and activity.
- To achieve these objectives, the National Forest Company leads the creation of the National Forest, working in partnership with landowners, local authorities, private business, voluntary organisations and local communities and has strong support from Government, politicians and the public. The Company, now also a charity, continues to receive grant support from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Charity no: 1166563.
